Description

The Manager of Email Marketing will be responsible for developing and executing email marketing strategies that maximize audience engagement, acquisition, and retention across the Hearst Magazines Fashion & Luxury, and Automotive brand portfolios. With an emphasis on transitioning our email strategy toward greater personalization, automation, and a customer-first approach, the manager will introduce innovative, tailored, and scalable solutions to enhance efficiency, audience segmentation, and engagement. As a key contributor, this role requires strong people management skills to oversee and mentor a direct report, ensuring cohesion, productivity, and professional growth within the team.

Responsibilities

Strategic Development and Execution

  • Build and manage email campaigns (BAU, triggered, journey-based) to engage audiences across lifecycle stages, from prospective to lapsed subscribers.
  • Develop and enhance audience segmentation strategies (e.g., Prospects, Actives, and Former Subscribers) to drive conversions and retention.
  • Mentor, supervise, and evaluate the performance of a direct report, fostering professional development and cultivating a high-performing team.

 

Lifecycle Management 

  • Prioritize email marketing alignment with marketing calendars and customer lifecycle stages to grow subscriptions as well as align with broader brand opportunities 
  • Create impactful customer journeys, such as onboarding, winback, and retention series, for diverse audience segments.
  • Implement and optimize behavioral and event-driven email triggers (e.g., paywalls, abandoned carts, and content saves) for high-conversion opportunities.
  • Ensure email list health and deliverability by employing best practices for list hygiene and segmentation.

 

Creative and Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • In partnership with the Creative and Marketing teams, adapt campaign strategies for each brand's unique tone, imagery, and audience needs while maintaining consistency and equity across the portfolio 
  • Ensure seamless integration of email strategies across other business lines such as paid marketing, membership, editorial, product development & engineering, newsletter, product, affiliate, and brand licensing.

 

Technical and Analytical Focus

  • Analyze and present performance metrics (e.g., open rates, CTR, conversions) to optimize campaigns, improve key performance indicators, and share insights with key stakeholders.
  • Research and implement marketing technology tools to enhance email operations and capabilities.
  • Maintain compliance with email marketing regulations (e.g., GDPR, CAN-SPAM) and industry standards.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and data privacy regulations to continuously improve email marketing strategies.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of proven email marketing experience in lifecycle management and automation; preferably in media, fashion, automotive, or ecommerce.
  • Technical proficiency with SaaS tools, email platforms, and automation workflows (e.g., Marigold Sailthru, Asana).
  • Skilled in audience segmentation, lifecycle marketing, and building campaigns focused on triggers, journeys, and behavioral insights
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Experience collaborating with creative teams to manage assets, develop engaging campaigns, and align marketing efforts.
  • Adaptable, collaborative, and results-driven, with a history of successfully owning processes from concept to execution.
  • Exceptional project management, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively across creative, marketing, and technical teams.

 

The base salary for this role is between $76,000-$88,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
